RBMVE Biographical Note: Jerry Hanson was the Head of Engineering for the 1937 RBMVE and was instrumental in the completion of maps produced by the Expedition.
Scope and Content: In 2017, Hanson’s great-granddaughter, Anna Lessenger-Soland, contacted The ONWARD Project in order to share their family’s documentation about Hanson’s experiences and work with the RBMVE. Materials were loaned to The ONWARD Project so that they could be digitized and added to the digital collection material.

Container List or Summary of RBMVE-related Material: Material includes a typed and bound account “A Summer Among the Navajos,” photographs and sketches included in the account, Expedition bulletins and circulars, correspondence between Expedition personnel and staff, correspondence written home from the field to family, hand drawn and colored maps, newspaper clippings, and Expedition reports.

Selections from “A Summer Among the Navajos” are shared as part of the Arizona Memory project here. See additional material from the Hanson Family papers here, by typing ‘Hanson’ into the search bar. Also see a few more selections below. Click to enlarge.
