RBMVE Biographical Note: Edwin McKee participated in RBMVE in 1934 and 1935 as a geologist. He worked for USGS at the Grand Canyon, where he and his wife lived for many years. They wrote a book on the Havasupai and basketry with anthropologist Joyce Herold, and traveled extensively around the Colorado plateau. Edwin was also the Director of Science for MNA in 1941. Later in his life he worked as a research geologist with USGS.
Scope and Content: From finding aid listed above: “In assembling the three photograph albums, Barbara Hastings McKee created a remarkable glimpse into her life and that of her husband and family. Fittingly, they begin with her trip to the Grand Canyon in 1929. In the pages that follow she meets and marries Edwin McKee, travels, studies, explores, raises a family. The albums end in 1944, although a few photographs were added later, from the 1960s.”
Container List or Summary of RBMVE-related Material: PH.95.48.561-1202: Scrapbook includes photos of RBMVE region, including Tsegi Canyon and Betatakin, Milton Wetherill, and more. Also a few photographs of Barbara McKee with June Hall, wife of RBMVE Director Ansel Hall, at camp in Tsegi 1936.
